Both your direct chats with Grok and your public posts on X are used by default to train Grok models. API platform accounts are excluded from training and covered by separate terms.
On the X platform, go to Settings and Privacy > Privacy and safety > Grok, and toggle off the training option. On the x.ai portal, go to Data Controls and deselect 'Improve the model'.
Retention Period
Conversations and posts are retained as long as necessary for model training and service delivery. Private Chat conversations are deleted within 30 days unless legal or safety reasons require longer retention.
Deletion on Request
YesGrok chat history can be cleared in the UI. Public posts on X that have already been ingested into training sets cannot be easily purged or recalled. Account deletion also triggers deletion within 30 days.
Shared with X Corp affiliates and service providers under vendor agreements.
Logs may undergo human review for safety filtering, alignment verification, and reinforcement learning purposes.
Context & Variations
GDPR controls are available to EU/UK users. Subject to scrutiny by the Irish Data Protection Commission regarding X post ingestion.
Age limit is 13+ (aligned with X platform registration terms). Parental consent required for users 13-17.
Developer API platform services have separate terms where prompt inputs are not used for training and are subject to standard enterprise security policies.
